Cold/Low Intensity Laser Therapy:

We are happy to provide Low Intensity Laser Therapy(LILT) with the Meditech BioFlex laser system.  This system delivers photons of light energy at 660nm, 830nm and 840nm infrared wavelengths.  The wavelengths are delivered through 180 super luminous diode treatment heads and a laser probe.  This method of delivering light energy has shown through repeated scientific studies to produce a very successful therapeutic benefit on all tissues.  As your whole body is composed of cells, it has a therapeutic benefit almost everywhere.

The photons of energy that are emitted by the treatment heads are absorbed by a variety of molecules in the cells.  This energy is converted to biochemical energy and produces a number of therapeutic benefits.

Physiological Benefits of LILT include:

  • Reduce inflammation / lymphatic drainage
  • Increase DNA synthesis - ( helps with cellular reproduction )
  • Increase in collagen production - ( increases tensile strength of tendons, muscles and ligaments )
  • Increase ATP production - ( increased metabolism )
  • Release Endorphins - ( release natural “feel good” pain reducing chemicals )
  • Increased modulation of cells in the healing process - (macrophages, fibroblasts, lymphocytes, etc)
  • Stimulation of immune response
  • Increase in angiogenesis - ( formation of new blood vessels )

Laser light therapy offers some significant advantages because it is:

  • Non-invasive
  • Non-toxic
  • Easily applied
  • Highly effective with a cure rate ~95%
  • Over 1 million treatments without a single known side effect

Common medical conditions that have benefited from laser therapy include:

  • General: Carpal tunnel syndrome, Epicondylitis, Fibromyalgia, Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, Repetitive stress injury, Rotator cuff tears, TMJ dysfunction.
  • Injuries: Bulging and herniated discs, Contusions, Facet joint syndrome, Fractures with associated soft-tissue injuries, Ligament and tendon tears.
  • Inflammatory: Bursitis, Myositis, Plantar Fasciitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Synovitis, Tendonitis.
  • Degenerative: Calcifications (e.g. bone spurs), Chondromalacia patella, Discogenic and vertebrogenic radiculopathy, Osteoarthritis, Spinal stenosis.
  • Other: Burns, Dermatology (herpes zoster or shingles, ezcemas, psoriasis), Dermal ulcers, Gout, Lymphedema, Neuropathies, Wound healing.

HOW LONG DOES A TREATMENT TAKE?

Treatments are typically 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on the area and condition being treated.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?

The number of treatments will depend on the chronicity and the extent of the pathology involved. Based on the genetic makeup of the cells, an individual’s response to LILT will vary to some degree. A recent clinical review, including 1,000 consecutively treated patients, reveals the average number of treatments to be 9.4. Treatments can range from 3 to 30 sessions.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?

Unlike most pharmaceutical solutions and other therapeutic options, laser therapy is non-toxic, non-invasive and in over one million individual treatments, no significant adverse effects have been noted.
